Knuffle Bunny is a 2005 Caldecott Honor book that contains a mix of background pictures and drawings of the characters.
Trixie, a toddler, and her dad go to run some errands. On their way back home, Trixie realizes that her bunny, Knuffle, is no longer with her, she tries to tell her Daddy about it but he doesn't understand her! Trixie's Mommy welcomes them back and when she sees Trixie undone, she asks "Where is Knuffle?" Trixie's dad realizes that was what Trixie had been trying to tell him all along.
The pictures show the setting and the drawings depict the characters in a cartoonish way. The illustrations in this book support the story line all throughout the story.
What I liked about the book is the picture/drawing concept. The picutres show city features such as buildings, parks, the inside of a laundromat while the drawings are the characters.
This book reminded me of when my son, Diego was a toddler and my daughter, Gabriela used to "translate." When Diego began talking, we, the parents could not understand what he wanted, somehow, Gaby understood everything and would tell us what Diego had said or needed, very cute!
