My People is a photograph tribute of Langston Hughes thirty-three words poem, the images display different types of people, from elders, adults, children and babies, this book shows the reader in sepia photographs black people in varying shades. The pictures capture "the beauty and soul" of the African Americans described in the poem.
I truly enjoyed looking through the book and reading the explanation at the end of the poem. The splendid pictures indisputably enhance and bring up the pride that Hughes wrote in this poem, the comparisons of "his people" to the stars, the night and the beauty of their soul shows how deeply Hughes felt for African Americans and their beauty. I recommend this book for a poetry lesson, Black History Month study, and many other lessons that will teach our students how valuable all people are.
